Math Class
I. Br= ief overview:
This class will seek to help students improve their problem-solving skills. We wi= ll accomplish this task by focusing on the following areas:
1. Chess instruction: http://www.uiltexas.org/aplus/events/a-chess-puzzle-pilot
2. UIL competitions
&nbs= p; A. Number Sense: http://www.uiltexas.= org/aplus/events/aplus-number-sense
&nbs= p; B. Calculator Applications: http://ww= w.uiltexas.org/aplus/events/aplus-calculator-applications
&nbs= p; C. General Mathematics: http://www.ui= ltexas.org/aplus/events/aplus-mathematics
3. Parti= cipation in the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC 8) Tuesday, November 15, 2011. http://amc.maa.org/e-exams/e4-amc08/amc8.shtml
4. MathCounts: https://mathcounts.org/SSLPage.aspx?pid= =3D1828
II. S= cope and Sequence:
Instructional Note: Because of Marshall's alternating = block schedule, I can expect to meet with students every other class day. This means that in a typical six-w= eeks, the class should meet approximately 15 times. Hence the class will meet approxim= ately 45 times per semester and 90 times per year.
Plan: = span>I plan to alternate weeks of study between UIL material and MathCounts material, with Friday meetings devoted to Chess.
