II.  S= cope and Sequence:

Instructional Note:  Because of Marshall's alternating = block schedule, I can expect to meet with students every other class day.  This means that in a typical six-w= eeks, the class should meet approximately 15 times.  Hence the class will meet approxim= ately 45 times per semester and 90 times per year.

Plan:  I plan to alternate weeks of study between UIL material and MathCounts material, with Friday meetings devoted to Chess.

Week 2:  Introduction to MathCounts, American Mathematics Competitions 8, and UIL mathematics.

1.  MathCounts/General Math objective:  The learner will understand the ru= les and nature of the MathCounts Competition and th= e UIL Math competition.

2.  MathCounts/General Math objective:  The learner will take a diagnostic/practice UIL  test.=

 

Week 3:

1.    Number Sense Objective:  TLWBAT:  solve number sense problems involv= ing  Addition, subtraction, multiplication & division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.  Solve problems involving order of operations.

2.    Calculator Application Objective:  The le= arner will be able to use the HP35s to solve order of operations problems , Page = 1 of contest. (7 days)
